Summer 2008 Volunteer Service Trip to Romania

Again in 2008, a group of volunteers from the United States visited Barlad, Romania with Bridge of Love in July. The trip was focused on showing love for and helping meet the needs of the abandoned and orphaned children and teens supported by Bridge of Love, and others in need. Volunteers’ service activities included:

• Delivered new and like-new clothing and toys to the children and teens supported by Bridge of Love and others in need;
• Planned, prepared for and participated in summer camp activities with the children at a local park, alongside the foundation's Romanian staff and volunteers, and foster parents;
• Shared a special evening with teens in the foundation's Bridge to Success program, including dinner and a discussion about the importance of making good decisions and the impact choices at this time in their lives can have on their future;
• Provided new shoes for each of the children and teens supported by Bridge of Love (made possible by the Poppinga Play it Forward Fund and Green Bay Packers football players, spouses and friends);
• Visited the homes of special needs children supported by the foundation who weren't able to participate in summer camp activities;
• Visited teens at the Elena Farago orphanage in Barlad, and met with the facility's director and teachers;
• Provided needed bumper pads for cribs of children with disabilities at the Special Needs Orphanage in Barlad, provided clothing, supplies and stuffed animals, and played games and spent time with the children who live there;
• Visited the Barlad Children's Hospital and provided donated medical equipment, supplies and stuffed animals;
• Traveled to a maternal center in the city of Galati and provided food supplies for the young mothers and babies living there;
• Visited an orphanage for teens in the city of Braila and provided new shoes.

Bridge of Love expresses its deep appreciation to everyone who participated in or assisted with the foundation’s July 2008 summer volunteer service trip to Romania, including the many individuals and organizations who contributed financial support, clothing, toys or supplies, or their time to help make the trip a success!

Summer 2009 Volunteer Service Trip
