Dorel was born February 8th, 1998 in Barlad, Romania. He was then transferred to Tutova Hospital where he stayed for the next 3 ½ years. In July, 2001, Dorel joined several other special needs children and was transferred to Barlad Children’s Hospital where he received therapy for institutionally-induced autism. On March 27th, 2002, Dorel left the hospital to be placed in foster care in Barlad. His foster family consists of 4 members: a father, mother, sister, and a brother who no longer lives at home. Dorel is very attached to his foster mother and his foster sister.

Dorel is a student at Cristi’s School, where he has done very well. Dorel enjoys his classes of speech therapy, play therapy, and ABA and PECS therapy. His progress has been amazing, and he can now speak and write. Dorel understands everything he hears and can also answer questions posed to him.

Dorel’s foster parents have been very proud of Dorel’s accomplishments and they glow with pride when he performs his songs and poetry. Dorel has really flourished in his new environment of a loving family and Cristi’s School.
